Resolutions
I hesitate to call the following a list of resolutions because I hate that term and the idea that goals should be pigeon-holed to the start of a new year, but…whatever. I just graduated from college and these are the things I think about on sleepless nights. It’s just happenstance that I graduated with one month left in the year. They are what they are.
- For starters, I’m going to completely revamp my website, from the ground up. I’m going to unify it more instead of it feeling like four or five different sections. And I will, I will finally put a portfolio up.
- I’m going to try to revamp my body as well (but not in the typical 01/01 sense). I’m going to start running again (thanks Nike+), I’m going to eat better and eat less, I won’t drink as much Dr Pepper (damn, this will be hard) and I’ll try to cut out processed sugars from my diet as much as possible. I think I’ll try to become a vegitarian for a few weeks too.
- More reading. I already get my fill of advertising, design and tech news in, I need to put this same amount of energy into reading for pleasure. And I mean books, not websites or Blender magazine. So much cool stuff has been written and is being written. I need to make myself a part of that.
- With the above goes more writing as well. Whether that’s here in my blog or in a journal in my desk, I need to do more of it. It’s just good practice.
- Be more organized. I tend to use my head a lot as a planner, but I’m human and I forget some things. Also, my memory is great for short-term goals and tasks, but I need to work on the big-picture and how to tackle things in small steps. Yes, I will use iCal, but I will not let it ruin my life (I’ve been really into David Allen’s GTD system, LifeHacker and the Kinkless GTD system for the Mac).
- Meet people. You call it networking, I call it finding interesting people to have relationships with. So many cool people are in this city and the more of them I can meet, the better. I’m out of school now and socializing and meeting people is not handed to me anymore. It’s all in my hands now.
I’ve got a rough timeline that I’ve planned for the next coming months, so stay tuned as to how that all turns out. Knowing the way the universe works, all of that will be shattered in a few weeks and I’ll be forced to deal, but I will. Here’s to a great 2007. See you at the finish line.
