Austin Evolution #4

Today the Austin Museum of Art announced plans to move from their current location on Congress to the Warehouse District off Guadalupe, between 3rd and 4th Street. While this saddens me because I’ll miss the old location that has been around for so long (since the early 70s), I’m extremely excited about the size of the project.

Not only is the building going to look extremely cool, but the AMOA plans to increase their total square footage and their exhibition square footage by almost 2.5 times. The education square footage is also doubling in size to almost 3000 sq ft.

It’s great to see this project take off and replace the parking lot that is currently there (except I’ll have to find a new place to park when I go downtown). It seems that part of the city will definitely end up being the high-end part of town what with the museum, nicer clubs like Six, the AMLI condos and the 2nd Street shopping district a few blocks away.
